September - Sapphire

The Bishop of Rennes in the 12th Century started the use of sapphires in church regalia. Some of the world's most famous sapphires come from India, while Australia is known for its production of dark blue and blue-green sapphires.

In the 13th century, it was believed that when sapphires are worn, the heat of anger cools. It was worn as a protection stone and soldiers wore sapphires to prevent themselves from being captured.

Sri Lanka sapphires are among the finest in the world. They have been found in shades of pale blue, violet, deep blue, yellow, white, green, greenish-blue, brown, and pink, as well as distinctive pinkish-orange shades known as "padparadsha".

Whatever color you fancy, so does sapphire.
